Jamis Joplin

#970

She/Her

Reason behind name and number:

My mom has always wanted to play derby & growing up we would listen to Janis Joplin. When I first started, people said I would make a great jammer due to my size & speed. I wanted to do a pun on being a jammer, & something to commemorate my mom. My # was going to be 1970 the year Janis died, but we were only allowed 3 #’s so I made it 970.

Derby history:

This is my 8th season playing for QCR! 🙂

Position:

All of them? Jammer, Blocker, & Pivot!

Other sports and hobbies:

I play Dek Hockey with a few of the other rollers, I crochet, make wall tapestries, and can play a little bit of Ukulele and Bass Guitar. I also really enjoy traveling!

Injuries:

I’ve never broken a bone! *knock on wood* but have had a few sprained ankles, a concussion, and a strained AC joint in my shoulder!

When I’m not playing derby I’m a:

I was a Barista & Manager at The Coffee Revolution and currently a SAHM!

Get Pumped Up Song:

IDFWY-Big Sean

Fun fact:

My first tattoo I got at 18 was of an Octopus, 10 years later I got my spirit animal done & found out it was an Octopus! 🐙

My greatest derby accomplishment is:

Playing and winning the 2019 Cornament, winning an MVB or MVJ trophy, or gaining countless friendships I will now have for a lifetime. Also my amazing & beautiful derby wife Penny Pain! <3

If I could tell myself one thing when I started playing, I would say:

Never compare your success to anyone else's. Only try to be better than yourself from practice before, one day you will be that skater that people look up to saying "I wish I could skate like her!"
